Why We Love it

Upon its launch in 2014, Bulgari’s Octo Finissimo line changed the face of modern watchmaking.

Daring, innovative, and bold, the collection from star designer Fabrizio Bonamassa took Gérald Genta’s older ‘luxury sport watch’ concepts — as well as his more recent high-complication wristwatches for the Italian luxury behemoth — and evolved them into a single, genre-bending product family. The Octo Finissimo line took advantage of Bulgari’s then-recent move into vertically integrated watch manufacturing to craft a collection that began winning industry awards for thinness at a record pace, culminating in the world’s thinnest mechanical watch, the Octo Finissimo Ultra, in 2022.

This particular example, a Sejima Limited Edition Reference 103710, takes the purest embodiment of the Octo Finissimo collection and mixes it with an eye-catching dial designed by Pritzker Prize-winning Japanese architect Kazuyo Seujima and high- polished case finishing. The 6.4mm thick case is sized at 40mm in diameter with a sapphire crystal and features a crown with black ceramic inlay. The finishing throughout the case and bracelet has mirror-like qualities, giving new meaning to the word 'shiny'!

The similarly reflective dial is comprised of metallized dots that enhance the shimmering effect, and its skeletonized handset, and subsidiary seconds at 7:00 are rendered in tone, making them arguably difficult to read, but maintaining the powerful visual effect. Powered by the 2.23mm thick Bulgari Calibre BVL 138 automatic movement with micro-rotor and 60-hour power reserve, this was for a time the thinnest automatic movement in the world.

This incredible piece sold out fast - now is your chance to snag a stunning example complete with its box set and dated warranty card. Whether or not this piece sees wrist time is up to you (we'd rock it!). Either way, this watch wouldn't look out of place in a modern art gallery!

Brand Story

+
Founded by Greek entrepreneur and silversmith Sotirios Voulgaris in Rome in 1884, Bvlgari has since become a luxury powerhouse.
Following its acquisition of the Gérald Genta and Daniel Roth brands from Singapore’s The Hour Glass in the early 2000s, the maison began a process of vertical integration that has allowed it to produce watches on par with the best from historical Swiss firms, the likes of which have stunned the world in the form of the Octo Finissimo collection. Indeed, having broken eight world records for thinness in as many years, the 2020s have proven Bvlgari to be a watchmaker unparalleled in modern history.
In 2011, Bvlgari was purchased by the LVMH Group, ensuring an allocation of resources and limelight that have placed the brand at the center of the watch buying public’s attention. From simple, time-only pieces to some of the world’s most complicated watches — and the world’s thinnest mechanical watch, full stop — Bvlgari’s watchmaking division continues to develop some of the most stunning timepieces in the world, each imbued with a certain Roman charm and sophistication.
