Why We Love it

The Nautilus is without question one of the great horological icons of the 1970s, and has in recent years once again become one of the most in-demand timepiece models on the planet.

Collectors and prospectors alike are clamoring to get their hands on Genta's second great luxury sports watch,  in all of its many notable iterations.

Interestingly, most demand for Nautilus models is centered around non-complicated models in steel, something we can't fully wrap our heads around...

This particular Nautilus, a Reference 5724R-001, is a great example of an oft-overlooked, extremely rare and special Nautilus model. Powered by the Calibre 240 PS IRM C LU automatic movement with subsidiary seconds, power reserve indicator, date, and moonphase display, this 5724R highlights a classic brown tapestry dial and a solid 40mm 18k rose gold case with matching strap and signed deployant clasp in outstanding condition throughout.

What truly sets this piece apart from, say, a Patek 5712R is that is features extensive gem setting. Beautifully-cut baguettes on the bezel, baguettes on the strap integrating center lug and in place of the hour markers, in every location possible, Patek has integrated diamonds to elevate this piece from the brand's standard collections.

The Nautilus - in any of its variations - is a very special thing. But the 5724R with its rarity and fine features is a favorite of ours.

Brand Story

+
Founded in 1839, Patek Philippe is one of the oldest watch manufacturers in the world with an uninterrupted watchmaking history. Few international luxury brands carry the gravitas of their name, and for good reason. The firm's commitment to excellence in horological manufacture is unflinching, and their track record of innovation in design without peer. They continue to lead the industry, and even their fiercest competitors have nothing but the utmost respect for the company.

From the simple elegance of their Calatrava line to the stunning study in miniaturization that is reference 1518 perpetual calendar to the modern reference 5750P chiming watch, Patek’s catalog is chock full of some of the most elegant and complicated timepieces ever made. Family-owned and completely independent, the firm has the freedom to do what it wants — such as discontinue one of the world’s most beloved steel luxury sport watches, the reference 5711 — when it wants.

Owning a Patek Philippe is for many the ultimate goal of timepiece collecting, and for a certain type, the only timepieces they collect. Whichever way you look at it, there is no questioning the elegance of design, superlative manufacture of their cases and movements, or the sheer elegance and emotion that comes from owning one.

Of course for a brand that is steeped in heritage, we are told “You never actually own a Patek Philippe…”

Well, you know the rest.
