Why We Love it
–The vintage-inspired diver is something that many collectors consider call a ‘must-have.' Indeed, it’s a type of watch that, when executed correctly, perfectly combines charm, utility and wearability.
Oris's own vintage-inspired dive watches — housed today in the Diver 65 collection — have been combing these traits beautifully for decades. Over the years we’ve seen the evolution of the entire line; slowly but surely, Oris introduced a wide range of new case sizes, iterated on dynamic dial colors, and implemented contemporary, in-house movements and limited-edition collaborations.
This particular Oris Diver 65 — which was made in collaboration with none other than HODINKEE — combines the aforementioned elements, blending together the rich Oris brand history with the distinguished design language from the ‘Dink.
Uniquely, the Oris x Hodinkee Diver 65 Calibre 400 features a 38mm stainless steel case — a size rarely seen within the marque's sea of dive watches, it represents only the second time a Diver 65 has appeared in this silhouette. The case itself features a bubble-domed sapphire crystal, a unidirectional bezel with a minimalist countdown display, an unsigned, screw-down crown, a sapphire caseback, and a steel 'Oyster'-style bracelet with a smooth 19mm-to-15mm taper and a signed clasp.
Meanwhile, the forest-green dial features the old-school ‘ORIS’ logo, cardinal hour markers paying tribute to said logo, and — crucially — no date window. The popular saying goes, “Less is more.” In this case, it certainly holds true!
This watch's hidden superpower, however, is contained within its namesake: the Oris Calibre 400, the brand’s top tier in-house movement. The Calibre 400 is equipped with a 5-day power reserve, an accuracy rating surpassing that of a COSC Certification at +5/-3 seconds a day, and a healthy magnetic-resistance rating, all of which is backed by a 10-year warranty (which is included here among the full kit).
Not all Oris Diver 65’s are equal. The Oris x Hodinkee Diver 65 Calibre 400, however, is one you don’t want to miss.
Brand Story

Brand Story
+Founded in Hölstein in 1904, Oris quickly grew to become a horological powerhouse, employing some 300 people by 1911 across multiple facilities. By 1936, upon the opening of its own dial factory in Biel/Bienne, Oris was producing nearly all its own components in-house. In 1938 the firm debuted its signature Big Crown pilot’s watch, which forms the basis of the brand’s modern catalog. With its dealer network compromised by the Second World War, Oris survived by manufacturing alarm clocks.
The turning point came when the Quartz Crisis hit Switzerland in the late 1960s, by which time Oris employed some 800 people and manufactured 1.2 million watches per year, making it one of the largest watch manufacturers in the world. By 1970, in a bid for survival, the company joined the precursor to the Swatch Group and began manufacturing quartz watches. However in 1982, the company’s managing director and head of marketing took over the firm, rendering them independent once more. They abandoned quartz altogether by the 1990s.
In 2014, Oris introduced its first in-house mechanical movement in decades in celebration of 110 years of watchmaking. In 2020, they introduced the Calibre 400, a movement with a 5-day power reserve and a 10-year recommended service interval. Today the company makes professional diving, aviation, motoring and other adventure watches for enthusiasts at relatively affordable price points, while their support of conservation initiatives the world over continues to delight their highly dedicated fans.
