Why We Love it
–There’s no doubt that Grand Seiko is responsible for some of the best contemporary watches in the world.
With their stunning craftsmanship, in-house movement technology, creative sense of aesthetics, and eye for detail, the high-end spinoff of Japanese powerhouse Seiko is keeping the Swiss on their toes. Whether it’s a simple, time-only dress watch, a complicated GMT, or a constant-force tourbillon, Grand Seiko’s wares are some of the finest in any class.
This particular GS, an SBGE249 from the 2020s, is a special edition for Timeless Luxury Watches — now part of Watches of Switzerland. Housed in a 41mm stainless steel case with ‘holey’ lugs, a sapphire crystal, a signed crown, and a polished bezel, it features a satin silver hammered dial with a white, 24-hour rehaut and applied indices, a matching Dauphine handset, a power reserve at 7:30, and a date.
In outstanding condition throughout and powered by Grand Seiko’s innovative Caliber 9R66 Spring Drive movement, it comes fitted to a stainless steel multi-link bracelet with s signed push-button deployant clasp and ships with its factory goodies.
With one look at this stunning dial, it’s easy to see where the ‘Blizzard’ moniker comes from. Pair that with a Spring Drive movement and a beautifully designed case, and you’ve got yourself one heck of a GMT watch.
Don’t let this one get away!
Brand Story
+
Brand Story
+Other models of Grand Seiko would follow, coupling those elegant “sparkling” cases with high-grade (often hi-beat) manually-wound or automatic movements. When compared to the no-nonsense tool watches like the 6309 line of divers, the Grand Seiko was worlds away—refined, elegant, and cosmopolitan. Seiko intended the watch to be an answer to dress watches crafted by the Swiss, and at that it certainly did succeed.
Well-regarded in its home country, the Grand Seiko reached a global audience in 2010—and has captivated consumers ever since.
