Details

Sure, Analog:Shift is a business built around the love of watches — mostly mechanical watches. But, in essence, it’s our love for timepieces and timekeeping in general that are the common themes throughout the items we procure. And that includes the love of clocks in general: pocket watches, travel clocks, and more.

After all, in the couple hundred years before the First World War, personal timekeeping was all about the pocket watch, and before that, it was larger clocks that were front and center, horologically. We still believe a good clock — such as a classic travel model from the 1920s or 1930s — has a place in the watch lover’s collection.

This particular timepiece is special: Dating to the 1960s, it’s a Heuer Monte Carlo dashboard timer, meant for use by professional drivers during races to time laps. Beyond its unique use case, this particular reference also includes a decimal scale — which, as many collectors know, is a moderately rare feature to find on any timepiece.

Housed in a 2.5” x 2.5” square stainless steel case with an acrylic crystal, an unsigned start/stop crown at 12 o’clock, an unsigned resetting crown at 2 o’clock, and a lap counter pusher at 11 o’clock, and a plastic, bidirectional bezel, it features a matte black tritium dial with a ‘broad arrow’ handset, luminous ‘Arabic’ indices, an outer decimal scale, and a lap counter aperture at 6 o’clock.

Powered by a hand-wound movement, it also comes with its box. And even if you don’t intend to mount this handsome timepiece to the dashboard of your modern car, it’s guaranteed to look fantastic sitting on the desk in your office, or on a bookshelf.

But we'd love to see the former...
