Why We Love it

The Nautilus is without question one of the great horological icons of the 1970s, and one of the most in-demand timepiece models on the planet.

Collectors and prospectors alike are clamoring to get their hands on Genta's second great luxury sports watch, and with the recent news of the discontinuation of the flagship reference 5711 in steel, this dramatic rise in popularity shows no signs of slowing down.

But what we have here is no run-of-the-mill Nautilus. This is a Reference 3700/1 — the very first Nautilus ever designed. Upon its debut in 1976 it was christened the ‘Jumbo’ for its oversized, 42mm steel case, a name that stuck with the 42mm Nautilii throughout their history. Powered by the ultra-thin Calibre 28-255C (based on an ebauché from LeCoultre), it was a revelation, heralding as it did the dawn of the “luxury sports watch.”

This particular Reference 3700/1, dating to circa 1977, features a 42mm stainless steel case, a matching integrated bracelet with signed deployant clasp, and an absolutely stunning, crisp navy blue tritium “sigma” dial with matching handset. Furthermore, this example remains in fantastic, honest condition and is accompanied by an Extract from the Archives of Patek Philippe.

This wildly rare piece has become a true piece of horological history - don't miss it!

Brand Story

+
Patek Philippe.

Founded in 1839, Patek Philippe is one of the oldest watch manufacturers in the world with an uninterrupted watchmaking history. Few luxury brands in the world carry the gravitas of their name, and for good reason. The firm's commitment to excellence in horological manufacture is unflinching, and their track record of innovation in design without peer.  They continue to lead the industry, and even their fiercest competitors have nothing but the utmost respect for the company.

Owning a Patek Philippe is for many the ultimate goal of timepiece collecting, and for a certain type, the only timepieces they collect. Whichever way you look at it, there is no questioning the elegance of design, superlative manufacture of their cases and movements, or the sheer elegance and emotion that comes from owning one.

Of course for a brand that is steeped in heritage, we are told ‘You never actually own a Patek Philippe…”

Well, you know the rest.
