Why We Love it

There’s nothing more classic and appealing than a simple dress watch.

Though to be fair, when we say “simple,” we mean “uncomplicated” — not unattractive! The 21st century saw a plethora of such watches hit the market. Generally available on leather straps and featuring two or three hands, these reliable wristwatches kept time during the classiest decades of the past 100 years. However, some were more innovative than others.

This particular dress watch from Piaget — which specialized in ultra-thin watchmaking — is one such example.

It features an 18k yellow gold 'elliptical' case with a fantastic, integrated yellow gold bracelet with 'bark' finishing and a signed locking clasp. Inside you'll find a stunning yellow gold dial with matching 'bark'-textured finishing and a "Cartier" signature at 6:00, printed black 'Roman indices, a blued-steel 'feuille' handset, and an automatic winding movement.

In excellent condition, this example dating to circa 1980 is a funky piece from a time when Swiss manufacturers were experimenting with new shapes and designs. This piece was likely produced for the Cartier boutique on 5th Ave here in New York.

What better way to dress to the nines than with a stunning watch like this on your wrist?

*Due to the design of this bracelet, sizing alterations may require custom work. Lead time after measurements are established is 4-6 weeks.*

Brand Story

+
Piaget is perhaps the foremost player in ultra-thin watches and watch movements in the world. Established in 1874 in Geneva and currently under the Richemont Group umbrella, the maison began producing wristwatch movements in 1911, manufacturing the Calibre 9P, its first ultra-thin, hand-wound mechanical movement, in 1957.

In 1960, Piaget released the Calibre 12P, the thinnest automatic movement in the world at the time, at just 2.3mm. It fitted many of its miniature movements into innovative timepieces hidden in coins, brooches, and cufflinks, becoming known equally for its jewelry.

The Piaget Altiplano Ultimate, released as a concept in 2018, became a full production model in 2020. At just 2mm thick, it took the record for thinnest watch on Earth. Today, Piaget continues to innovate in the realm of ultra-thin watchmaking, creating ultra-thin tourbillons, retrograde movements, and more.
