Why We Love it
–Imitation, nay, re-interpretation is the sincerest form of flattery.
In 2023, Tissot took it upon themselves to reach deep into their archives with the release of their funky diver known as the Sideral — a multi-colored regatta timer with a nifty rubber strap fastening system and a monoblock case.
This piece however, is an early example from which the modern Sideral draws inspiration from. Making its debut in 1969, this vintage Tissot Sideral S is the stuff that vintage dreams are made of!
First off, it's correct pronunciation — See-Dee-Rahl.
Okay, with that out of the way, let's dive into the nitty-gritty. This piece features a matte, dark grey, 40mm fiberglass case that sports a dramatic undercut profile as well a fully graduated, stainless steel timing bezel, a signed, steel crown and an acrylic crystal.
Equipped with its signature integrated, perforated rubber strap, this piece features a vibrant orange dial with patinated indices, matching 'baton' handset, a date window at 3 o'clock and a multi-color, regatta timing scale.
In virtually-unworn condition, this piece features a pristine case, an awesome dial, and it's original factory hangtag!
And you thought that watch brands experimenting with new case materials and integrated strap systems was a new thing?!
Nope! Tissot was already ahead of the curve!
Brand Story

Brand Story
+In 1930, the firm merged with Omega SA to form the SSIH (Société Suisse pour l’Industrie Horlogère). This would prove significant in the 1980s, when SSIH merged with ASUAG, a holding company, eventually becoming the SMH (Société Suisse de Microélectronique et d’Horlogerie). In 1998, SMH would become the Swatch Group, with Tissot poised as one of the conglomerate’s mid-range offerings.
Today, Tissot watches are distributed in over 160 countries, with brand ambassadors who include many basketball players, cricketers, actors, and more. They have previously sponsored Formula One teams and functioned as the official timekeeper for downhill skiing competitions, while their horological and design innovations, which include the Rock Watch of the 1980s the the brand’s T-Touch technology, have since made them a household name.
