Why We Love it
–There are things that can be improved with age, things that grow on you. Then there things that grab you by the heartstrings instantly and remind you why you went down this rabbit hole in the first place. For us, there is no watch that does that quite like the Tudor "Lollipop" Submariner.
Tudor has certainly made a name for itself the in past few years since their re-entry in to the U.S. market. But as their Heritage line continues to grow, enthusiasts and collectors have begun asking, "What are we missing?" Sure, the Black Bay and the Heritage Chrono are neat looking pieces, but they are only ever re-boots of the originals. And as the cast members of the new Ghostbusters movie are about to find out, it's impossible to improve upon perfection.
While Tudor has done a pretty good job, all things considered, we are still smitten with the original expressions. Not surprisingly, these models are beginning to command the attention they have deserved. What's more, less common models have begun to enjoy the vintage limelight as well, with relatively unknown watches becoming hot must-haves.
Of particular desirability are the models with unique hands and dials, such as the reference 76100 offered here. Contemporary to the Rolex 5513, the reference 76100 Tudor Submariner was a limited production transitional model that features so called "Lollipop" hands set against a dial with triangular hour markers at 6, 9, and 12, which make them considerably less common than the standard "Mercedes Hand" versions.
Much rarer than any Reference 1680 Submariner, the Tudor Lollipop is one of those watches that is still a bit of a wallflower: Collectors know about them, but enthusiasts aren't quite sure of the appeal. We're here to state resolutely that a 'Lollipop' is about as cool as late-model Tudor gets, and we'd take one of these much quicker than the competing meters-first Submariner.
