Details

While the age for mechanical travel clocks has passed, they still enjoy new forms of appreciation as decorative items on mantelpieces or desks in homes. Due to their age and simply because checking our mobile phones for the time is way more convenient, they are rarely actually used for traveling.

The romance that surrounds these objects is however undeniable. To many, the image that they conjure is both literal and symbolic, as on one hand, in its past, the clock may have traveled to all sorts of places and seen more things than the average individual. On the other hand, a clock may also represent more aspirational goals, embodying a luxurious lifestyle. Stripping away all of that, and you're still left with a well-made, beautiful clock, which brings a simple pleasure in and of itself, with loads of design variation to dig into.

This particular 8-Day travel clock is aReference 36/4, and features a 57mm square case, an acrylic crystal and bears the name LeCoultre on a cream white dial. The luminous dial features applied gold-accented ‘Arabic’ cardinal numerals and rectangular markers, as well as a central recessed, radial subsidiary alarm dial and a matching ‘stick’ handset.

The outer case features a two-tone, crimson red enamel finish with brass trim accents and a 'snooze' button located at the top. The case features a swivel mechanism that encloses the travel clock for safe transport that opens so to doubles as a stand. The caseback features all the necessary levers and gears to adjust the time, set the alarm and to wind the mechanical movement.

This LeCoultre travel clock harkens back to an era where this was the way to keep track of time when you were away from home. Sure you can set an alarm on your mobile phone or arrange a wake up call, but no matter whether you’re on holiday or on the final leg of a work trip, waking up to this charming LeCoultre alarm ring will be music to your ears.
