–Why We Love It
Tudor was founded on the premise of being a more affordable alternative to its big crowned brother.
In addition to being the 'working man's' Rolex, Tudor was given a longer leash to push the design envelope, trying new things and taking risks that Rolex would not. This lead to the creation of some truly fun and funky timepieces such as the Monte Carlo chronograph.
Powered by a manually-wound Valjoux Calibre 234 movement, the Monte Carlo differs from its sibling chronograph - the all powerful Daytona - in terms of design and functionality. Sized larger than its contemporary counterpart, the Monte Carlo features a full size 39mm Oyster case, and was one of the first models to feature screw-down pushers. Furthermore, the Monte Carlo swaps the Daytona’s hours register for a date function, with a cyclops date magnifier at 6:00.Â
Featuring 'exotic' dial printing and colorful orange accents for which the brand has come to be known, the Monte Carlo has become a design icon in its own right -Â a combination of the perfect mixture of components, size, and quality with an equally appealing approachability in regards to market value.
This particular example, a Reference 7159/0, comes from the personal collection of our Founder, who procured it as a single-owner project and nursed it back to life over the past year. Featuring an untouched dial with rich patina, superb untouched case, genuine service pushers and a professionally re-enameled bezel (using genuine Rolex enamel, natch) this is an honest and beautiful example of the model.Â
He's going to regret selling it. But there will be no regrets on your end, we promise!
