Why We Love it
–In the past 10 years, Tudor has been has been doing a fantastic job with their contemporary offerings.
Watches such as the Black Bay, Heritage Chronograph and Pelagos collections have been flying off the shelves for their impressive looks, sporty construction and aggressive price points.
This watch, a North Flag, is somewhat of a landmark piece for Tudor, as it would house the brands first in-house movement — setting the tone for nearly all watches to follow, as well as the direction of the company.
Prior to the calibre within this piece, all Tudor movements since the brand was conceived in 1926 have been outsourced from suppliers to keep production cost, and therefore retail pricing, down — an ethos that the brand was almost entirely founded with.
Drawing inspiration from a vintage piece, the Ranger II, the North Flag was designed to be a function-forward daily-wearable piece, utilizing a high-contrast dial for legibility, a screw-down crown, and versatile proportions. It features a 40mm stainless steel case with an integrated bracelet and signed fliplock clasp, a sapphire crystal, a signed crown, a luminous matte black dial with a power reserve indicator at 9:00, a date at 3:00, and a matching white 'broad arrow' handset.
Powered by Tudor's Calibre MT5621 automatic winding movement with a 70hr power reserve, this now discontinued, thoroughly modern tool watch is suitable for a wide variety of occasions and while somewhat overlooked, is an important piece in the history of one of the hottest brands of the last decade.
Though not for everyone, it's hard to fault, and we're fans.
Brand Story

Brand Story
+In creating Tudor, Wilsdorf wanted to offer “a watch that our agents could sell at a more modest price than our Rolex watches, and yet one that would attain the standards of dependability for which Rolex is famous.”
Tudors were in many ways Rolexes in all but name, with the same waterproof Oyster cases and similar styling. However, in order to keep costs down, the brand used off-the-shelf Swiss movements rather than their own in-house calibres. What resulted were watches that were more affordable than Rolexes to the consumer, but still uniformly tough and reliable.
Today Tudor has certainly defeated any impression of being the redheaded stepchild of the Rolex family, and their current timepiece collection — as well as their vintage counterparts — are getting the recognition and respect they most rightfully deserve. From the colorful “Home Plate” chronograph to the complicated Advisor, these models often picked up where Rolex left off, daring to be more bold and playful in their design. And now that the brand has introduced in-house movements while still managing to keep pricing modest, the company is better poised than ever to win the hearts and minds of millions of new watch enthusiasts.
